Raiffeisen Sustainability Initiative (RNI)

RNI LogoIn 2007, the then Advocate-General Dr Christian Konrad introduced the Raiffeisen Climate Protection Initiative (RKI). The platform has since continued to develop to become a sustainability initiative. On the occasion of its 10th anniversary in 2017, it was renamed the Raiffeisen Sustainability Initiative (RNI). In addition to the topics of environmental and climate protection, this puts the focus on the action areas of the economy/core business and social responsibility, with all their interdependencies.

The RNI is considered a platform, service and representational device for all the activities of its members in the area of sustainability. It supports its members in the conception, implementation and communication of measures relating to this issue. Driving sustainability and raising awareness are among the initiative’s priorities.

The member organizations consider themselves to be creative powers in society well over their entrepreneurial activities. They also feel obliged to adopt the ideas of F. W. Raiffeisen, which are still valid today, and are therefore committed to finding a solution to the current problems of our times. The creation of sustainable economic and social systems, the adoption of a shared social responsibility and the correct handling of the consequences of climate change can only be achieved through a major commitment by all of society. Raiffeisen wants to make a meaningful contribution to this. Guiding principles should be a sustainable eco-social market economy – as described in the Lisbon Agreement as being the aim of the European Union – and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Objectives of the RNI:

  • To make a substantial contribution by suitable means so that members of the RNI can implement the issue of sustainability to the best of their ability within their own companies.
  • To lay the foundations for RNI members to optimize synergies in the area of sustainability.
  • To promote activities that contribute to sustainable development in society.

RBI has for many years integrated sustainability measures into its business operations. As the foundation member of the Raiffeisen Climate Protection Initiative, it actively addresses these concerns through numerous environmental measures. A key objective is to further reduce its ecological footprint.
