Raiffeisen has been present in the Polish market since the founding of Raiffeisen Bank Polska S.A. in 1991. The number of bank customers came to about 243,000 at the end of 2010, the number of employees to about 3,100. The balance sheet total of the bank reached € 6.9 billion. In addition to serving corporate customers and small and medium-sized enterprises, Raiffeisen Bank Polska also focuses on affluent customers. In 2010, Raiffeisen’s total lending in Poland amounted to € 5.1 billion, and deposits were € 3.9 billion.
Despite the difficult market environment for leasing business in Poland, Raiffeisen improved its position to second-largest provider in this business area in 2010 with a portfolio of about € 1.3 billion. In factoring, the group continues to be the country’s market leader. Raiffeisen Bank Polska has operated successfully for years in the area of mutual fund sales and was granted the licence for arrange IPOs at the Warsaw Stock Exchange. With trading plattforms such as R-Dealer and Mobile Phone Banking solutions, Raiffeisen Bank Polska is one of the most innovative banks in Poland.
In February 2011, RBI aquired a 70 per cent share in Polbank. With its clear focus on retail banking, Polbank is an ideal complement to Raiffeisen Bank Polska. The merger of Raiffeisen Bank Polska and Polbank (which is subject to national and international regulatory approvals) will create Poland’s sixth largest commercial bank by assets (based on figures as of the acquisition date) and the fourth largest bank by customer loans. The merged bank will service more than 1 million customers.
