Sibos is the annual conference, exhibition and networking event for the financial industry organised by Swift, the global provider of secure financial messaging services. This year’s event took place in Frankfurt, Germany, from September 29th until October 2nd.
Hot Topics At Our Booth
Our teams from Institutional Clients, Cash Management, Prime Services, Trade Finance, and Compliance had exciting discussions at our booth, which this year was themed “Make global partnerships happen.” We listened in on the expert talks and main topics included the rising importance of compliance standards, with new and existing clients emphasizing completed audits. Another trending topic was that some international banks are shifting focus from Dublin to Paris post-Brexit, with Paris and Frankfurt seen as future financial hubs.
Digital Assets for a Strong European Financial Infrastructure
Our commitment to innovation was evident in the panel discussion “Banking on Stablecoins: Why financial institutions are moving from pilots to production.” Our blockchain expert Vid Hribar shared his experiences as part of the European stablecoin consortium.
“Together with other major banks, we are helping to develop a euro-based stablecoin to make cross-border payments faster, more cost-efficient, and more transparent, and to strengthen Europe's financial infrastructure for the future.” Vid Hribar, Strategic Partnerships & Ecosystem RBI
As digital assets are on the rise and international banks deploy tokenized use cases, we are also pushing our CABCO initiative (Crypto-assets Business Committee) within RBI, to stay competitive and ensure the best service for our clients.
Unlocking Growth for International Investors
To enhance investment opportunities for our clients, we are evaluating connecting to the Uzbekistan (UZB) Central Securities Depository to extend our direct-access model eastward. The local capital market is attractive with a strong growth and an intent to open to international investors. In our lively talks we saw keen interest from leading global banks, custodians and International Central Securities Depositories (ICSDs).
Together with local colleagues, we are actively supporting market infrastructure in Ukraine to keep access for international investors open. We were really happy to see that this “Rebuild With Ukraine” initiative is highly appreciated.
Promising Career Paths
RBI's Oleksandra Kucher was part of this year's STAR (SIBOS Talent Accelerator Route) program, designed to empower rising female leaders in the finance industry. She recorded an interview for SIBOS TV on diversity and women in leadership positions and provided valuable perspectives and insights on diversity, career development opportunities for young talent, and the importance of leadership.
“Diversity is not about who is sitting in the room, but whether that room is ready to listen.” Oleksandra Kucher, RBI Prime Services Sales
