How Raiffeisen Research Contributes to the Steadily Growing ESG Data and Analytics Community
In recent years, the world of finance has undergone a profound transformation, with environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues taking center stage like never before. As our global community grapples with pressing issues such as climate change, social inequality and business ethics, the financial landscape is evolving - nay, must evolve - ahead of the curve. Ideally, it will reflect an increased awareness of sustainability and responsible investing, with investors, companies and financial institutions increasingly recognizing that integrating ESG principles into decision-making processes is not just a matter of ethics, but also critical to long-term financial success.
Many challenges have emerged, but new solutions have also entered the ever-growing market. Data and analytics tools have become a key element in this process for all stakeholders working with ESG considerations on a regular basis. We at Raiffeisen Research are proud to have been part of this development from the beginning and offer our clients and partners, in addition to our regular reports such as "The Green Deal", various discussion platforms for knowledge sharing and solutions for assessing, managing and optimizing ESG performance at different levels, from countries, sectors to companies/financial institutions and even on financial instruments level.
Community building
Together with academic representatives from WU Vienna and the Academy of Data Science in Finance, Raiffeisen Research has organized the ESG Data Analytics Forum annually since 2021. The forum primarily serves as a knowledge exchange platform between industry representatives from finance and academia in the field of ESG and Sustainable Finance with a focus on quantitative/analytical models. This year’s event covers many aspects starting with climate stress testing, followed by data for regulatory reporting and sentiment/AI based tools and closes with ESG strategy implementation. The full agenda can be found here: https://dsf.academy/conference/
This year the forum will take place on Thursday, November 9th 2023 in the Raiffeisensaal of RBI Head Office from 9:00am untilt 5pm. To allow for maximum reach of this platform the event will be partially hybrid and the first two sessions including the welcome address streamed not only to interested employees of the whole RBI Group but also to corporate and institutional clients.

Our solution built for the community: the ESG Portal
Amidst the paradigm shift that ESG brings to us, the need for powerful tools to assess, manage, and optimize ESG performance has become paramount. In response to this growing demand, Raiffeisen Research has developed an application, that we named “ESG Portal”, to help internal and external customers to navigate these new paradigms. Something that started between two divisions within Risk and Corporates as well as Raiffeisen Research increased over the time to become a bank wide project. With each iteration it got more and more attention also from external stakeholders and partners such as Landesbanks and other divisons in CIB. By incorporating their ideas and suggestions along the road in a collaborative way we believe that the product will eventually improve their decision making and business goals in a target-oriented and omni-channel way.
So, what does our ESG Portal offer and how does it work?
The web application allows to deliver ESG data on countries, companies and bonds alike. Customers can upload their own set of companies and fill out our ESG questionnaire, enabling them to get ESG scorings even for small and medium enterprises.
Additionally, users can create portfolios consisting of companies scored by Raiffeisen Research, companies uploaded by them as well as bonds and track the ESG performance of their portfolios over time. See also the screenshots below to get an impression of the look and feel of the tool.

With the provision of the well-derived, objective ESG data via the app, it supports RBI in the transformation to a sustainable financial institution: We act in a socially responsible manner, fostering the long-term welfare of the people and businesses in our markets. The tool created in a collaborative and agile way allows to close the gap.
