Europe Day

As it comes to Europe Day on May 9th, it is time to have an honest conversation about the regulatory and bureaucratic reality in Europe.

In Austria, bureaucracy costs the economy up to €20 billion every year.

Efficiency gains should not be expected from businesses alone - the state must also do its part by reducing unnecessary bureaucracy.

When businesses come under pressure, this is not just a corporate issue. It is a matter of economic competitiveness as a whole. Where we have control, we do our homework. But we must also speak openly about political missteps that make economically viable production in Austria more difficult, and about what needs to change in the broader environment to put Austria back on a path to success.

Anyone who wants to preserve prosperity in Austria and Europe must be willing to talk concretely about bureaucracy, regulation, trade policy, and investment conditions - not just in Sunday speeches.
