Vienna, 5 October 2026. Raiffeisen Bank International AG (RBI) has finalized an internal review of the allegations made by a short seller (17 September 2026), which concludes that RBI has acted at all times in line with its compliance framework and sanction policies.
The internal review covered nearly 200 specific items mentioned in the short-seller’s report (companies, contract and transaction numbers, dual-use goods). These were cross-checked in forensic detail against RBI’s payments and transaction history.
The internal review confirms both the robustness of the compliance systems and the strength of the control functions in head office. RBI was one of the first European banks to roll out centralized compliance systems across all units of the Group and has invested in these systems continuously over the years. The results of the internal review have validated this approach.
RBI’s sanction policies are based on EU, US, and UK sanction legislation, and include additional precautionary restrictions that extend beyond legal requirements.
